Questions before you start
These are the questions learners ask most often before beginning a module. If yours is not covered here, the contact page is the quickest way to reach us.
01 Do I need any banking knowledge before I begin?
No. The modules start from the basics and use plain language, so you can begin with whichever topic feels most useful. If you already use a debit card and have an account, you know enough to start. Each lesson explains its own terms as they come up.
02 Who are the lessons written for?
They are written for Canadian adults who want to feel more at ease with everyday banking, whether you are new to the country, returning to managing your own money, or simply never had things explained clearly. Examples come from ordinary Canadian situations.
03 Are you a bank, and do you give investment advice?
No. Okanagan Money Academy is an independent school. We teach how everyday banking works, but we do not hold accounts, handle your money or recommend investments. For decisions about your own accounts, speak with your own financial institution.
04 How is each module taught?
Each module is built from short written lessons, worked examples drawn from real Canadian situations and practical exercises you can try with your own accounts at your own pace. Our instructors have backgrounds in retail banking, credit union IT support and community budgeting.
05 Will I receive a certificate when I finish?
We do not issue certificates or any formal qualification. What you take away is practical confidence: knowing how to use an ATM safely, read a card statement, set up online banking and spot a suspicious message when it arrives.
06 Can I take the modules in any order?
Yes. Each module stands on its own. Many learners start with ATMs and cash access or digital banking, then move to security and scam awareness. Everyday money management works well after you are comfortable with cards and online banking.
07 How do I get help if I am stuck on a lesson?
Send a message through the contact page, naming the module and the point where you got stuck. An instructor who teaches that subject will reply by e-mail, usually within a few business days, with a clear explanation.
08 Do the lessons use my real account details?
Never. You are not asked to share account numbers, card numbers, PINs or passwords with us at any point. Exercises use sample statements and practice scenarios, or you can try the steps privately in your own banking app.
